We are a fee-only firm. This is distinct from “fee-based”, where a fee is charged based on the assets under investment, or commission-based, where the financial planner makes money when you purchase products. We only have time to “sell”. That is, we bill much like a law firm for advice and have no products to sell. As stated under our business philosophy, we want the value of our services to exceed the fee charged.

Firms differ widely in their approach to financial planning. For example, some will do the retirement and estate planning analysis but then focus only implementing the investments for retirement. Some accounting and law firms provide financial planning as an adjunct to their main business. Few are able to provide the comprehensive analysis and implementation that our firm provides, because we are a law firm that specializes in personal finance, that can provide the implementation as well as the analysis. Also, we can access many other professionals as needed.
